Donna Nalongo is a vibrant musician and traditional storyteller from Uganda, thriving in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Inspired by her grandfather, a renowned long drum player, and her father, a composer and guitarist, Donna immersed herself in folk singing, dancing, and drumming.
With a wealth of experience, Nalongo captivates audiences with dynamic performances of Ugandan folk songs and dances. She facilitates drum circles and intercultural music workshops for organisations such as Beyond Skin and WOMAD, showcasing the richness of African cultural heritage.As a pioneer of the multicultural band ‘Thfree,’ she blends traditional Ugandan music with influences from India, Ireland, Bulgaria, Spain, and Ghana. Her mission is to entertain, educate, and integrate communities through folk music and dance, fostering appreciation for diverse cultural traditions.
Nalongo’s interactive workshops are engaging and informative, enriching participants' experiences with the meanings behind the songs. Recently, she led a successful twelve-week drum project with nursery children in East Belfast, inspiring a new generation to embrace African rhythms.
As the only Ugandan artist in Northern Ireland and the first female African drum circle facilitator, Nalongo is passionate about bridging cultures through the universal language of music. Join her in celebrating the rhythms and stories of Uganda!
